Privacy Policy

Scope of this policy

This policy covers two separate things, and it's important not to confuse them:

  • This website (dicom-burner.com), which we operate and which uses Google Analytics as described below.
  • The Dicom Burner desktop application, which runs entirely on your own computer and connects directly to PACS servers you configure yourself. We do not operate, host, or have any access to that connection, the studies it retrieves, or any patient data it handles. Nothing you do inside the application -- searching for studies, retrieving them, burning discs, copying to USB -- is sent to us or to any server we control.

What this website collects

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use this site -- pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP address, not stored as a precise address), device and browser type, and referring site. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other information that directly identifies you unless you choose to provide it to us (for example, by emailing us for support).

We do not sell, rent, or share this analytics data with third parties beyond Google itself (as the analytics provider), and we do not use it for advertising.

The desktop application specifically

Dicom Burner does not phone home, does not transmit patient data anywhere, and does not include any telemetry or usage tracking. The only network activity it performs on its own initiative is a small, anonymous check on startup against a public update manifest (a plain JSON file listing the current version number) to let you know if a newer release is available -- this check does not send any information about you, your organization, or any data in your PACS system. All DICOM query/retrieve traffic goes directly between the application and whichever PACS server(s) you configure; we never see it.

You, and your organization, remain solely responsible for how patient data is handled, stored, and protected once retrieved by the application -- including compliance with HIPAA or any other applicable data protection law in your jurisdiction. See the License page for the full terms.

Cookies

This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors and sessions. You can block or delete these cookies through your browser's settings; doing so will not affect your ability to view this site or download the application.

Children's privacy

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the updated policy.
