Everything DICOM Burner Can Do
DICOM Burner is free DICOM burning software built for medical professionals who need to query PACS servers, retrieve studies, and get them onto CD, DVD, Blu-ray, or USB — reliably, and without licensing fees.
Multi-PACS server management
Configure and switch between any number of PACS/DICOM servers, each with its own host, port, Called/Calling AE Title, Move Destination AE Title, and per-server timeout settings. Test every connection with a C-ECHO before relying on it.
Flexible C-FIND query
Search any configured PACS server by patient name, patient ID, modality, and study date range, individually or combined. Results show full study info — patient demographics, referring physician, image count, and Study UID — in a sortable grid.
C-MOVE and C-GET retrieve
Retrieve studies with C-GET for a direct, simpler transfer, or C-MOVE via DICOM Burner's built-in Storage SCP for compatibility with older or stricter PACS systems — configurable per server, so mixed environments just work.
Burn straight to CD, DVD, or Blu-ray
Detects physically attached optical burners automatically via Windows IMAPI2 and burns retrieved studies directly to disc, with an automatically generated DICOMDIR index for DICOM Part 10 compliance and broad third-party viewer compatibility.
One-click USB copy
Retrieve a study from PACS and copy it straight to a USB drive in a single action — no intermediate steps, no separate export/copy workflow. USB drives are detected automatically as soon as they're plugged in.
Export straight to ISO
Retrieve studies directly into an .iso disc image file, with no physical burner required — useful for archiving, network distribution, or burning later on different hardware.
Bundled DICOM viewers
Attach a portable DICOM viewer to every disc or USB drive you create, so recipients can open and view the study immediately without installing anything. Manage multiple viewers, set a default, and add your own custom viewer executable.
Organized local library
Retrieved studies are stored in a clean patient/study/series folder hierarchy on disk, with free-space warnings before you fill up a drive, so your local archive stays predictable and easy to navigate.
TLS-secured PACS connections
Connect to PACS servers over TLS where required, with client-certificate passwords encrypted at rest using Windows DPAPI — credentials never sit on disk in plain text.
Visible job queue with real status
Every retrieve, burn, and copy operation runs through a queue with live per-study progress and a plain-language status message — completed, failed, or in-progress is always obvious, never buried in a log file.
Built-in update checks
DICOM Burner checks a public update manifest on startup and shows a banner when a new version is available, with the choice to update now, skip that version, or be reminded later — no telemetry, no data about your PACS servers or patients ever leaves your machine to do it.
100% free, no license fees
No subscription, no per-seat licensing, no feature paywall. DICOM Burner is free to install and use for personal or commercial purposes — see the License page for the full terms.
