How to Save a DICOM Study as an ISO Image
Sometimes you don't want a physical disc — you want a disc image you can archive, email, drop on a network share, or burn later on different hardware. DICOM Burner can retrieve a study straight into an .iso file with no burner attached, for free.
You'll need DICOM Burner installed and a PACS server configured.
- 1
Search your PACS for the study
Choose your PACS server, enter your search criteria, and click Search Studies to run a C-FIND query. Select the study you want from the results grid.
- 2
Choose a DICOM viewer to include
Pick a viewer from the Viewer dropdown so it's embedded inside the ISO alongside the images, just as it would be on a physical disc.
- 3
Open the Save as ISO option
Click More burn options and choose Save as ISO. This retrieves the study straight to an .iso disc image rather than writing to physical media.
- 4
Choose where to save the ISO
Pick a filename and location for the .iso file. DICOM Burner retrieves the selected study from PACS and writes a complete, DICOM Part 10 compliant disc image — DICOMDIR index, images, and bundled viewer — to that file.
The resulting .iso is a full disc image you can burn to CD/DVD anytime with any burning tool, mount directly on Windows, or distribute over the network — without ever needing an optical drive on the machine that created it.
