How to Include a Free DICOM Viewer on a CD or USB Drive
A disc full of DICOM files is useless to a patient who has no software to open it. DICOM Burner solves this by copying a portable DICOM viewer onto every disc or USB drive you create, so anyone can open the study on a Windows PC by launching the bundled viewer — no installation, no PACS access, no cost.
- 1
Open DICOM viewer management
From the main menu choose Options > DICOM Players to see the viewers available to bundle. Asset-based viewers are discovered automatically from the app's Assets folder.
- 2
Set or add the viewer you want
Select a viewer and click Set as Default, or click Add Custom Viewer to register your own viewer executable with its command line. The default viewer is remembered until you change it.
- 3
Pick the viewer when creating media
Back on the main window, choose the viewer from the Viewer dropdown before you burn or copy. Whatever is selected there is what gets bundled onto the media.
- 4
Burn or copy as usual
Click Burn to DVD, Export to USB, or Save as ISO. DICOM Burner writes the study together with the selected viewer, so the finished disc or drive is self-contained.
When the recipient opens the disc or USB drive, they can launch the included viewer and see the images immediately — the single biggest thing that makes patient and referral media actually usable.
