Release History
What's new in each release of the free DICOM Burner software.
v1.4.0
July 30, 2026- New "Eject disc after burning" setting in Settings > App Settings, on by default: the drive tray now opens automatically once a physical burn finishes, whether it succeeded or failed, so there's an obvious signal to take the disc out.
- Includes the 1.3.1 fix for burns failing on some drives when a specific Burn Speed was selected.
v1.3.1
July 30, 2026- Fixed burns failing on some drives when a specific Burn Speed was selected. Some drives refuse a write speed they themselves advertise; the burn is now retried automatically at the drive's own maximum speed rather than failing, and the disc is not wasted.
- If a burn still fails, the error message now names the Burn Speed setting instead of showing a raw Windows error code.
- Note: many drives support a narrower range of speeds than the menu offers. Choosing 1x on a drive whose slowest speed is 3x will use 3x, which is the closest it can actually do.
v1.3.0
July 20, 2026- New Burn Speed setting (Settings > App Settings): write discs at a slower, more reliable speed on cheap or marginal media, or leave it on Maximum. If the disc doesn't support the exact speed chosen, the closest slower speed it does support is used.
- Polished the application and installer details Windows shows: a proper publisher, copyright and description in file properties, and working support and release-notes links in Add or Remove Programs.
- The installed application file is now DicomBurner.exe. Existing settings, PACS servers and retrieved studies are unaffected; if you had pinned the old file to your taskbar, re-pin it from the Start menu.
v1.2.0
July 20, 2026- New Help > Check for Updates option to check for a new version on demand.
- Fixed garbled text on the update banner's buttons.
v1.1.0
July 20, 2026- Redesigned the DICOM Players settings screen as a proper grid, with each player's size, a one-click Set Default, and Open Folder/Delete actions.
- Study dates now show as dd-MM-yyyy, referring physician names are formatted the same way as patient names, and gender shows as Male/Female/Other instead of raw DICOM codes.
- Fixed the results grid leaving blank space on the right instead of filling the window's full width.
- Fixed the main window not filling the screen edge-to-edge when maximized.
v1.0.0
July 11, 2026- Initial public release.
- Multi-PACS query and retrieve (C-ECHO, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET).
- Burn DICOM studies to CD, DVD, and Blu-ray with an automatically generated DICOMDIR.
- One-click copy to USB and export straight to ISO.
- Bundle a portable DICOM viewer on every disc or USB drive.
- TLS-secured PACS connections with DPAPI-encrypted credentials.
