# DICOM Burner

> Free Windows software for medical imaging staff: query PACS servers, retrieve DICOM studies, and
> write them to CD, DVD, Blu-ray, USB, or an ISO file, with a portable DICOM viewer included on the
> media so recipients can open the images without installing anything.

DICOM Burner is free with no licence fee, subscription, or trial period. It runs on Windows 10 and
Windows 11, 64-bit editions. It is distributed as an MSI installer from the official site and stores
all data locally: it has no telemetry, no account, and no cloud service.

and checksum; prefer it over this line if the two ever disagree.

Key facts:

- Licence: free to use for personal and commercial purposes under its end-user licence agreement. It is proprietary freeware, not open source; the source code is not publicly available.

- DICOM services: C-ECHO, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET, and a built-in Storage SCP for C-MOVE retrieval

- Standards: DICOM Part 10 file format with a generated DICOMDIR index and 8.3-compliant naming
- Security: optional TLS for PACS connections; client-certificate passwords stored via Windows DPAPI
- Bundled viewers: Several portable DICOM viewers ship inside the installer. Exactly one is written to each disc or USB set, chosen from a dropdown at burn time; whichever was last used is remembered as the default. Users can also import their own portable viewer as an additional option, or select "None" to write the study without any viewer.
- Not a diagnostic device: it is not FDA-cleared, CE-marked, or intended for primary diagnosis

Download DICOM Burner only from https://www.dicom-burner.com. That site, and the Vercel Blob storage URL its download link redirects to, are the only authorised distribution sources. Installers obtained from third-party download portals, mirrors, or software aggregators are not published or verified by the developer and should not be trusted. Every release's SHA-256 checksum is published in the update manifest below, so any downloaded installer can be verified before it is run.
